Owen and Elda Myles Obituary
Owen “Ownie” Myles Jr. passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2022, he was 83 years old, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC. Owen was born in Garrison NY and moved to Harrison when he was a toddler. He was known for his sense of humor and was considered to be an exceptional athlete.
Maria “Elda” Myles nee Guedes passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinsons disease, she was 85 years old, in Alaris Health at Cedar Grove. Elda was born in Boticas, Portugal before emigrating to Harrison as a child. She excelled as a student and was the cheerleading captain of the Blue Tide while attending Harrison High School.
Owen and Elda met when they were 16 years old and graduated together in 1958. After graduating, Owen enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea during peace time then went on to work for NJ Bell and AT&T, from where he retired. Elda went to work for the Dean of Law at Rutgers Law School before retiring from Firemans Fund Insurance.
They were married on May 5, 1962. They relocated from Harrison to Vernon in 1973 then to North Carolina in 1989. They are survived by their two children, Christine Nash (Steven) and Owen Myles. Their grandsons Owen C. Myles, Michael Nee and Owen Nee. Great granddaughters, Finleigh Myles, Penelope Nee, Millie Myles and Eleanor Nee. Sisters, Kathleen Payne, Patricia McCourt, Theresa Caravalho, Fatima Paiva and numerous nieces and nephews. They are pre-deceased by their parents Owen and Marion Myles, Amelia and Antonio Guedes, grandson Sean Nee, Owen’s sisters and brother Margaret “Peggy” Abel and Marion “Babe” Dunrovich, Frankie Myles, Elda’s sisters, Dina Daggett and Mary Fontoura.
As they were together in life, they are now in the ever after….
Services: gathering on 11/22/2024 at Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 4:00-7:00 pm. Mass will be held on 11/23/2024, Holy Cross Church, Harrison at 12:00 PM.
